Black Rice Sweet Porridge best during Winter Season

According to Chinese medicine black foods strengthen the kidneys essence which makes you live longer. Strong kidneys slow down the sign of ageing, remove black spots & blemishes from the face, and strengthen the bones structure. In China winter is the season of the kidney; during cold days and nights your body needs naturally more warmth & nourishment. Because of the cold weather the richness of the kidney tonic herbs are least likely to cause side effects such as heat-congestion in the body. So nourish your kidney essence with black foods during winters as much as you can to stay young and vital!

Full of minerals black rice, black sesame seeds or powder, black fungus, black lentils, black beans, seaweeds, spirulina and chlorella, blackberries and black grapes are especially great ingredients for a healthy winter breakfast or lunch, because they will keep your stomach filled, so that your brain can focus on the important matters you face throughout the day.

Below black sesame powder and black rice.

My Black Rice Sweet Porridge Recipe

It’s a rich and filling dish, so I recommend it as a hearty breakfast bowl. Breakfast, as you know, should be one of the biggest energy booster throughout the day, to kick off the workload with a real power.

Ingredients

1,5 cups black rice
1/2 cup of oatmeals
2 cups of milk
4 tablespoons of unsweetened  almond powder
2-3 tablespoons black sesame powder
2 apples McIntosh
handful of 3 berries: blackberries, blueberries and raspberries
1 banana

In a saucepan, bring to a boil:
3 cups of water
2 cups of milk
4 tablespoons of unsweetened  almond powder
1 cup of black rice

simmer for around 30 minutes till rice becomes soft
(the black rice tints the water with a deep shade of cocoa as on the picture below – don’t worry about it🙂

add:

1/2 cup of oatmeals and black sesame powder and simmer for another 15 minutes till rice and oatmeals turn nice and soft.

In oven,

In the meantime bake 2 sweet apples (McIntosh are best) in the oven. It may take around 25 minutes if you set the oven at 400-450 °F (200–230°C).

In the separate, smaller saucepan

Put together apples from the oven, fresh banana and mix of three berries: blackberries, raspberries and blueberries. Simmer them for around 10-15 minutes till they turn into jam.

Top your breakfast bowl with apples & banana & 3 berries home made jam and enjoy 🙂

It’s even better reheated another day.  This recipe makes 5 generous servings . Enjoy your winter breakfast!
